We're up all night to get lucky

Monday, November 18, 2013

Today is November 18th.

It's Cary's lucky day...
according to a fortune cookie we got in the hospital after Tucker was born.

via

In Cary's world this means he is going to win the lottery.

via

I'm trying to convince him that a "lucky day" would be winning $100, $50, heck even $20 and you only need to buy a scratch off to win that...

But, bless his heart, the man dreams big. Ya know. Go big or go home!

So here's hoping and praying he doesn't spend too much on tickets ;) and that maybe we actually do get lucky! How fun would that be? It'd sure make for a good story, and I LOVE a good story.

*Side Note: We realize gambling is wrong and a serious problem for some people and I am not in any way encouraging gambling
**Although I'm fairly positive none of my friends or family buy lottery tickets, I feel obliged to say if you have a problem gambling there is a helpline posted on the back of your ticket (877) 718-5543
***Ok, now stop being a prude and judging. Let Cary have his fun--it's not very often I loosen the purse strings ;)

We're gonna have a good time

Cary turned the big 2-8!

We started the day with Daily Donuts (they're delicious... mmm) and presents!

I think Cary's favorite was the lottery scratch off's I got him.
(He LOVES playing the lottery,
but obviously we realize gambling is wrong and a waste of money we don't have...
so he only gets to buy a ticket if the jackpot gets over $300 million....
and his birthday!)

He won $12!

We were both pretty stoked! The lottery is a lot more fun when you win.

We didn't really get any other time with Cary between work and young men's that night, but I made him some delicious black and white cupcakes to share with the boys.

I think turning 28 wasn't too bad.

Girl let me love you

In Zoey News...

Zoey is a funny little girl. She sees the big kids jump at the park and now she walks around the house squatting and trying so hard to jump--but she just can't seem to make it happen. It makes me smile.
(The books all say that won't happen for another year and a half. Knowing Zoey, she'll make it happen sooner than that)

Zoey has also become quite the drama queen. She can go into meltdown mode instantly, but also snap out of it just as quickly. Other people find it hilarious....

Zoey story of the week: Zoey has a dirty diaper and won't sit down to let me change it. So I'm chasing her around the apartment to change her diaper, and she stops and turns toward me and points at me with all sorts of attitude and says "stay!" with complete conviction and confidence that I will. So ridiculous... I don't even know where she learned the word stay!?!

And since Cary doesn't make appearances on the blog too often. Here's Cary pulling a Zoey.

I wish I could have told him in the Living Years

Happy First Father's Day to Cary!

He's such a natural with Zoey. He never hesitates to change a diaper, get messy feeding her, sing and rock her to sleep, read her books, or find something to make her laugh. She is a lucky little girl and she adores him. I'm so grateful to have his support.

We love him and can't wait to cuddle and swing away our summer nights on his new hammock!

I wanna be a billionaire...

For those who don't know...

the
mega-millions lottery jackpot is up to $400 million something.

Cary is beside himself with excitement.

He's decided lottery tickets are worthwhile if the pot is over 100 million, and he's pretty much already won in his mind.

For the past two days, all he talks about are what he will do with his winnings.

For example...
he's worried my mom and dad will judge him for gambling, so he's gonna fly them to the bahamas for a fancy dinner and tell them we won while allowing them the option to vacation as long as they want.

He's decided when our child(perhaps children someday) ask how we got rich, he's just gonna tell them he made smart investments (and then he starts laughing and says "REAL SMART--ha just a $2 ticket).

He's decided we should move next door to Mitt Romney, since we'll know what it's like to be in his tax bracket and we can discuss investment options.

Of course, he wants to finish his schooling first, so in the meantime he will also pay to have a
Zupas, Cook Out, and Sweet Tooth Fairy franchise put in on Franklin Street.

When asked what he will do first when he discovers he won:
"I'm going to whole foods and buying the GOOD milk... you know, the kind that comes in the glass jars"

Ohhh Cary... he even got me excited for a minute thinking, even if we just got 4 numbers we'd get $10,000 and I could get a new pair of rainbows and fly to my friends, Erik and Aubrey's, wedding.

Then he told me there's a 1 in 176 MILLION chance of winning.

BAHAHAHAHA SAY WHAT!!!!

Well, at least the $2 ticket has made him giddy all week... arguably money well spent.

You know it's gonna make it that much better

It's springbreak, YAY!!!!!

Cary is thoroughly enjoying his first (and last) ever college springbreak!

And I'm loving having him around to help with Zoey, but mostly because he makes me laugh all day...

Yesterday, he walks out of the room wearing brown pants and a black tee shirt, and gets this attitude like Tim Gunn "I know this is a total fashion faux pas, brown and black, but I don't even care."

Later I'm flipping through channels and stop on an Insanity infomercial (we're slightly (maybe a little more than slightly) obsessed with the insanity workout program) and look at Cary, hey that could be us in a few more weeks! Then they show a testimonial and this guy has a 6 pack, but they're all out of line, and Cary says "umm yeah, I hope my abs aren't messed up like that, if they are I'll just always keep my shirt on at the beach and just shrug "yeah, I'm fit'"

My personal fav... I was telling Cary a story and realize I was sometimes a horrible sister, and say "wow, I'm kinda suprised my sisters still like me."
Cary gets really sarcastic "seriously though... next time I see your sisters I'm gonna ask them 'How can you even stand Carla?'" Haha, only he can make me laugh about my many flaws. But, I told him that makes it sound like our marriage is falling apart, so we decided to save that one for our house only...
oh, and the blog...

How did you know I needed you so badly

My husband has a serious chocolate addiction.

I thought I was supposed to be the one with the chocolate addiction?

While I have been lost in dreams of those savory and decadent melt in your mouth belgian truffles that I once enjoyed and still long for...

Cary's addiction is becoming $1 a day addiction.

(Ok, this isn't really a picture of Cary... but it could be)

Ok, ok $1/day chocolate addiction doesn't quite translate like a pack a day. So let me illustrate...

$1/day= 3 fudge brownies= 8 chocolate chip cookies= 2 candy bars= 1/2 bag of chocolate chips

You don't see why this is a problem? His munchies hit late at night which means I don't notice the chocolate chip supply dwindling! Soon I will go to make his favorite cookies and they will be nothing but butter and sugar *gasp* (actually I love sugar cookies), but then where will my husband go to feed his insatiable need???

!!!GASP!!! I will not be beat by you!

And your wretched waxy excuse for a dessert... Commence the secret stash of chocolate.

Gotta get home this year

My sister had a bad date. She told me about the boy's complete lack of conversation abilities and described the date as a bad game of twenty questions. One such question being "Who is your favorite President?"

This begs the question who has a favorite president? Or more importantly, why would you ask this on a first date (supposing you are not both poli sci majors who lack interests relating to the general population)?

Of course, upon 2 more seconds of pondering I find the abundance of possible answers fascinating. This lowly gentlemen's reponse was "Abraham Lincoln of course! (which in and of itself defends my sisters position to never go on a date with this bloke again).

Why Abraham Lincoln of course? Just cause he helped prevent us from being a nation divided?

What about Theodore Roosevelt, who instigated the national parks system, providing me with lots of great vacation memories. Or Andrew Johnson, who couldn't even read. What a role model, to prove that something as small as illiteracy should never hold you back. How about Andrew Jackson, who created the spoils system, teaching americans that you should never leave your friends behind for success... bring them along. Heck, or JFK, presiding with style! Heck, one could even argue for President Palmer or President Bartlett. Oh the hour long conversation that could have been had if this boy had just one ounce of creativity or inclination towards a good debate. So sad...

On that note, though, I recently drove 40 (maybe +) hours across the country with a boy who is not lacking for interesting conversation. I would roadtrip with him again in a heartbeat.

He even got out to take pictures of state signs with me!

On our 3 hour detour through Chicago. We stopped for breakfast at the Bongo room, which is worth a 3 hour detour even in the middle of winter.

You still doubting me...

Ummm yeah, those are the delicious pancakes. Next time you're anywhere near the midwest... seriously, do yourself a favor and stop in
