oh yes I did, yes I did

Soooo... I have opinions.

And sometimes I share those opinions. And then people think I'm an idiot.

Allow me to explain...

When people ask how I am doing (I'm 32 weeks and getting bigger almost daily), I generally say something along the lines of I don't love pregnancy and I can't wait to have my baby already.

Then people tell me to enjoy my pregnancy because babies are so much work, to which I respond,
"oh I'm excited for the baby, I could forgo the pregnancy all together"

This is usually followed by an eye roll and a "you'll see"

**Disclaimer: I realize I don't have children, and therefore do not understand. I realize that babysitting, or even watching kids for a weekend while parents are gone doesn't equate to the 24/7 responsibilities of parenting**

Yet, allow me to explain my thought process. Once baby is here I can sleep on my stomach! That means that those 2 hours in between feedings might actually include sleep instead of constant tossing and turning in an attempt to get comfortable.

Also, it is my first and only baby--so I'm still in the stage of life where I will be able to sleep when baby does--also leading me to think I might get more rest than I have had the past several months.

Finally, with pregnancy I can't just take off the belly and take a break when I just can't handle another minute (nope, that's usually when I start crying and try to hide it from Cary, because there's no definitive reason or solution to the crying). When baby comes, all of a sudden I can hand baby to Cary and say I need 5 minutes. When baby gets older, I can put them in the crib and lock myself in the bathroom for 5 minutes. I can take my mom up on her generous offers to babysit. What I'm getting at is that I can't wait to have my body back and in my current ignorant state I feel like I will be able to tackle much more when it's JUST me in my body again.

But, please feel free to share your eyerolls and "if only you knew" comments

Don't enjoy being pregnant, it's misery and you will love your baby much more than your giant belly. Johnny was THE most challenging baby with the worst colic and I still loved having him in my arms 10 billion times better than being pregnant. I hated being pregnant and no silly old woman was going to change my mind. Enjoy your baby when she comes and let everyone else enjoy their bellies! Oh and I always thought I would much rather be woken up from my sweet baby screaming than to throw up because my heartburn was so bad. ;)

I think it's hard to tell you you don't know what you're talking about without sounding condescending. Like, "It's your brain, Carla, but you don't even know what you're thinking. Let me tell you what's really going on up there."

At the same time, I'll be interested to know what you have to say after the baby is born.

Sometimes I wish I could put them back inside, and they would be safe and taken care of, and I could sit on the couch and eat snacks all day again. Instead, I go up and down the stairs about thirty times every day and punch the walls when they just refuse to go to sleep. I also get to see their smiles -- I think that makes up for it.

Whatever to those people, being pregnant is THE WORST!! Having a screaming baby is so much better than being pregnant. I never once missed being pregnant, ever. This coming from the girl who has had three miscarriages and would love to be pregnant. I only want to be pregnant because a baby comes at the end. Pregnancy is horrible!!

I love you, I MISS you, and I think all those other people can just go sit on a pin or seven. I hope the rest of this pregnancy speeds by so you can have what I know is going to be a beautiful baby in your arms instead of in your tummy. :) Of course, this is coming from the single girl who has never been pregnant, but I don't care because I'm pretty sure I'm still right. :)

Hate to break it to you, but if you breastfeed, you still can't really sleep on your stomach...

But not having a huge stomach and heartburn makes sleep already sooooo much better! Sleep even in the hospital felt magical. I couldn't believe how much better I felt not being pregnant. I can move again!

Hang in there- it'll happen soon enough!

I am really looking forward to the following about not being pregnant (excluding the obvious "I can't wait to see my baby")

No more heart burn
Sleeping on my stomach!
Bending over with ease
Holding my computer on my lap
Wearing my favourite clothing
Being able to see my feet, and put on shoes with ease
So much more.

It's the simple pleasures in life that really matter. :)

I am so with you Carla! (Other than the being pregnant part) but I'm sure that's how I would feel :)
