I was supposed to wake up baby girl an hour and a half ago... according to the baby books.

The thing is, as much as I try to encourage a schedule, she does what she wants.

She doesn't sleep great at night, some nights she crashes at 8, some nights she's wide awake til midnight. I just don't know.

And I'm exhausted.

And apparently she's exhausted too. So far she's slept through a fire alarm and me taking a picture of her.



The way she sleeps is too funny, right?

The problem is... she was supposed to wake up an hour and a half ago, so I've pretty much wasted the last hour waiting for her to wake up so I can feed her. Oy vey.

Tips? Advice? Comments? Concerns.... actually you can probably just keep those to yourself, this first time mom does a good enough job worrying I'm screwing my kid up :)

I wish Evie would crash at 8 sometimes! It's consistently been somewhere between 1-2 am. And I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to maintain a schedule, but letting her dictate it. Whatever it is you're doing, as long as she's fed, got a clean diaper and you're showering her with love and affection, she'll be just fine!

And I love the way she's sleeping!

Best book that helped Owen get on a schedule and kept me from going crazy.... healthy sleep habits happy baby. It was four dollars on Amazon.

I really feel like sleep is one of those things that's different for every baby. Mine would still be waking up twice in the night if we hadn't done sleep training, but I know some kids start sleeping through the night a few weeks in {or so their parents claim; I'm a bit skeptical}. I love having a schedule because then I know better what to expect, but I know a lot of parents who do without and are happier that way.

When they were a few months old, we got tired of never knowing what would happen in the evening, so we started establishing a bedtime routine at the same time and sticking to it as best we could. Our routine was just taking them into their room, turning off the lights, and giving them a bottle before putting them in bed, but it seemed to let them know what was going on.

Oh I remember those nights so well, Lilly was a horrible sleeper. For the first 6 months of her life she only slept longer for 45 minutes if someone was holding her. I also had the book healthy sleep habits, happy baby and it changed my sleeping world. I always recommend that book, but it doesn't work for everyone. Just know that this is a normal problem that every parent goes through with each baby. My friend didn't know how to get her 5th baby to sleep. You're not alone.

We only really have a bed time schedule and we established that at about 4 months. Besides that she typically takes 2-3 naps a day. We are all happy without schedules so I think if it is important to you then encourage it. If schedules are something you are happier without then go with happy :)

Also I always felt so stressed that I was doing everything wrong if I read baby books it doesn't help that they all contradict each other either. No new mom needs that feeling. I always go to my mom and knowing your mom she would be an awesome source of mothering advice.
